Here we've answered some common questions.
Textile Hive is home to over 40,000 textiles, cultural artifacts, and research memorabilia collected by groundbreaking fashion designer, traveler, and researcher Andrea Aranow. The international textiles in Andrea’s collection have served as inspiration to fashion designers, students, historians and more since the 1970s. Today, the collection resides in Portland, OR, and online, where digital archives and special exhibits keep this one-of-a-kind collection accessible to inspire future generations.
By collecting art through Textile Hive’s shop, you’re supporting our mission to make the Andrea Aranow Textile Collection accessible and preserved for current and future generations. As an independent, family-owned cultural heritage collection, it’s no easy task to organize, digitize, care for, and exhibit the handmade objects in our collection, some of which are more than 200 years old. Your purchase makes a valuable contribution to the important work of preserving and documenting Andrea’s collections.
Yes, from time to time we encounter duplicates of some of our beautiful fabrics, which gives us the opportunity to find them a new home. Our goal with the Textile Hive shop is to make an assortment of Textile Hive pieces available to enjoy for as many as possible. The Art Series is a wall art photography collection capturing some of the most beautiful and eye-catching pieces in the Andrea Aranow Textile Collection, photographed using medium and large format film cameras. These modern, unframed drymount art board photographs are available in three sizes.
Textile Hive Shop’s Bold, Textures, and Waves collections are framed with an acid-free white mat. They’re available with three wood frame options: white, black, and maple finish. The Art Series art boards are unframed.
Our wall art is printed by a Portland-based studio using a giclee printing process, which results in museum-quality archival prints. This process uses 12 individual colors to fully and faithfully represent the depth and vibrancy of the textiles.
Art Series pieces are attached to white mats and float-mounted on acid-free drymount boards, which are unframed for a modern look. The Wall Art collections are printed in 100% cotton archival fine art paper and framed in your choice of three frame finishes.
